For the first task we were told to create a school magazine suitable for Year 7 and onwards.
I sketched a draft of what I expected my magazine front cover to look like and where about I wanted the title and image to be.
Then, in my team we took mid-shot photos of students we would like as the main image.
This was the chosen image.
When it was decided that this was the image we wanted on the front cover we began editing the background to make it look more professional. We chose a neutral background colour so that the image and the text would stand out. The initial draft was used to determine where each part of the front cover would go and then we were able to prepare the main snippets of news that were to be added too. Sans-serif font was used because the magazine is targeted at teenagers so it needed to appeal to a younger audience.
I think that this design is professional and by using the school colours it makes it more unique to the school it will be published in.
I had looked at various school magazines to help me to decide how to layout my own.
The first one I chose to look at was "Chosenhill" which I thought was exceptionally good because it shows a mid-shot of a student with text that was necessary on the side which is how I wanted mine to look as it seems 'tidy'. The colours used for the text are similar to the uniform the boy is wearing connoting the colour scheme chosen for the magazine is the same as the schools making it appear more professional.
The second magazine I chose was "On top of the talk". This stood out as amateur and unfinished.
There is no colour theme making the cover look childish and messy making it appear confusing.
Also, the reader can't see the image of the two students very clearly as it is small and in the corner as well as them not looking directly towards the front so they won't stand out. Compared to the first magazine, this one isn't as bold and stylish and wouldn't be a first choice to buy out of the two.
